Irina Mladenova

Vice President, Research & Consulting

Irina brings to SR Inc an interdisciplinary planning perspective. She completed an A.B. in Urban Studies at Harvard College and a Master in Urban Planning with a concentration in Sustainable Design and Development at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Irina leads the development of research to serve SR Inc Members.

Prior to joining SR Inc, for two years Irina was a core member of the Harvard Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure and worked for developing a rating system for evaluating the sustainability of key infrastructure types (transportation, water, energy, water, telecommunication, and landscape. This included developing a case study on the ‘carbon neutral’ new city of Masdar, Arab Emirates, after extensive interviews with the major design and engineering firms involved with the project during the World Energy Summit in January, 2010 and multiple visits to London. Irina has also interned in the NYC Mayor’s Office of Long-Term Planning and Sustainability. There she served a consultant to the Green Codes Task Force, convened by Mayor Bloomberg in 2008 to recommend statutory changes to the current laws and regulations in order to encourage green practices.

Her field work and research include China, India, Argentina, Singapore, Austria, Bulgaria, Senegal, and US. Major projects include Landscape Urbanism in North-West Beijing, China; The Redevelopment of the South Boston Waterfront, MA; The Renovation and Urban Integration of the Existing Tangier Port, Morocco; The IT Impact on Urban Planning and Urbanism in Bangalore, India, among others.
